The Oregon Ducks have a great track record of churning out elite quarterbacks.
Recent examples in this modern era would be Dillon Gabriel, Bo Nix, Justin Herbert and Marcus Mariota. Go back even further, though, and you can name players like Kellen Clemens, Joey Harrington, A.J. Feeley and even Dan Fouts.
Current starting quarterback Dante Moore may be a Heisman Trophy contender in 2026 and a future first-round draft pick.
It’s just what the Ducks do well, and that’s certainly been the case under head coach Dan Lanning.
That’s why it’s no surprise that Will Mencl, one of the top quarterbacks in the 2026 class, committed to Oregon on Wednesday. The Auburn Tigers and Penn State Nittany Lions were also in the running for Mencl’s commitment, but Oregon won him over.
“The culture is the biggest thing with Oregon,” Mencl has told Rivals in the past. “Dan Lanning runs a really tight ship with what he believes and a standard he holds players to.”
