The Kansas City Chiefs enter the 2025 season carrying the weight of expectations and the sting of their Super Bowl LIX loss to Philadelphia.
That defeat exposed cracks in what many considered an unbreakable foundation.
Now questions surround whether this Chiefs team can reclaim its championship form or if the dynasty is showing its age.
Local analyst Rob Parker recently shared his blunt assessment of Kansas City’s prospects for the upcoming campaign.
“It just doesn’t feel the same. I just don’t think it’s the same team. And I think they’re going to have trouble in the AFC. I think there’s a chance that they could not win the division. In fact, I’m going to stand on it with my chest out and say that they don’t win the division,” Parker said.

The Chiefs still have Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce anchoring their offense.
But Kelce’s potential retirement after this season adds pressure to maximize what could be their final year together.
Mahomes is still playing at an elite level in his eighth season. However, subtle warning signs appeared last year.
Kelce’s production dropped from previous seasons. Chris Jones recorded fewer sacks than expected. The offense struggled at times when facing consistent pressure.
Kansas City addressed their protection concerns during the offseason. They signed tackle Jaylon Moore to a significant $30 million contract.
The team also drafted Ohio State’s Josh Simmons, who could debut midseason and projects as a long-term solution at left tackle.
The departure of veteran guard Joe Thuney leaves uncertainty along the interior line.
On defense, rookies Omarr Norman-Lott and Ashton Gillotte join a unit that has relied heavily on Jones’ pass-rushing ability. The Chiefs need more consistent production from their supporting cast.
The receiving corps lacks proven depth beyond Marquise Brown and Xavier Worthy.
Kansas City hopes someone emerges to complement Rashee Rice and provide Mahomes with additional targets.
The AFC West has improved across the board. Kansas City faces a brutal early schedule with four playoff-caliber opponents in their first six games.
