Subriel Matias Knocked Out By Dalton Smith

WBC Jr. Welterweight titlist Subaru Matias battled the United Kingdom’s Dalton Smith Saturday night in the main event of a pay-per-view broadcast live from Brooklyn. Matias had something to prove as he had popped for having a banned substance in his system recently. He was allowed to fight because of the small dosage that was found in the test and perhaps because the WBC indicated it’s belief that foul play might have been involved. Most would argue that this should not have been a pay-per-view fight. Still it was a quality fight or at least it was on paper. The scheduled 12 round battle would hold the truth.

It’s doubtful Matias saw this at any point as a walk through the park. That proved to be a good thing, for Smith was certainly on him in the early rounds. By the 3rd it looked as if Matias was getting into a groove, at least for the time being. So far it had been an extremely entertaining fight. Indeed, by the fourth round Matthias was definitely getting to work on its opponent. It remained however a thrilling fight.

As good as the fight was, though, it’s doubtful anyone thought it would arrive at its thunderous end the way it did. Several powerful shots from Smith in the fifth sent Matias down onto the mat…. and out. It was a stunning, thrilling conclusion to what had been a stunning, thrilling fight. One could only lament the fact that it was on pay-per-view rather than on a more affordable broadcast. Smith not only won the WBC Junior Welterweight title, he did it after crossing the entire Atlantic. Needless to say, the internet went wild upon the fight:s brutal, memorable conclusion. There’s no doubt about it, Smith is now a name the sport will be well aware of.

Smith will most likely be fighting Alberto Puello next. Smith was the kind of fighter serious fans were aware of, but didn’t pay a whole lot of attention to. Until now. Now having bested the likes and Matias, and earning himself a world title in the process he’ll be a fighter people want to see on both sides of the pond. He’s got guts. He’s got the dedermination and he certainly has talent. He also has the title of champion. No doubt he hopes he’ll hold on to it for quite a while.
