Anthony Davis Trade Rumors Heat Up as Deadline Approaches – Basketball Insiders

The Dallas Mavericks sit at the center of major NBA trade talk as the Feb. 5 trade deadline approaches. Anthony Davis remains the key name tied to those rumors. According to reports, Dallas has discussed possible trade scenarios, though no deal is close or finalized.

Davis is currently sidelined with a left hand injury, which limits his on-court impact before the deadline. Even so, teams around the league continue to monitor his status and availability. Executives see him as a potential playoff-changing piece if healthy later this season.

Eastern Conference Teams Showing Interest

Several Eastern Conference teams have surfaced as potential suitors. The Toronto Raptors are one of the most discussed options. Reports indicate Toronto could build a package around RJ Barrett, plus either Immanuel Quickley or Jakob Poeltl.

That type of return would give Dallas younger talent and roster flexibility. The Atlanta Hawks and Detroit Pistons have also been mentioned as teams keeping tabs on the situation. None of those teams have confirmed active negotiations.

Despite the chatter, Davis has not pushed for an exit. Reports state he would be open to staying in Dallas through the rest of the season. That stance keeps multiple paths open for the Mavericks.

Contract Details Shape the Market

Davis’s contract plays a major role in these talks. He earns $54.1 million this season and $58.4 million next year. He also holds a $62.8 million player option for the 2027-28 season.

Those numbers require teams to match salary carefully. His injury history also factors into trade value. Front offices must weigh short-term upside against long-term risk.

Davis’s agent, Rich Paul, reportedly wants clarity from Dallas. The key question centers on a future extension versus a trade. That uncertainty affects how aggressively teams pursue him.

Dallas at a Turning Point

The Mavericks still lack a full sample of Davis alongside their core pieces. He has yet to play extended minutes with Kyrie Irving or top rookie Cooper Flagg. That missing data complicates any final decision.

Dallas could hold Davis past the deadline to evaluate roster fit later. The front office may also prefer patience over a rushed move. Either choice carries risk.

For now, Davis remains a Maverick. But with the deadline closing in, this situation will stay near the top of the league’s watch list.
